Eliza Labs has opened a portal for the migration of the native token of its AI agent platform from ai16z to elizaOS.

The open-source platform for building and managing AI agents was previously rebranded from Ai16z to ElizaOS in January. The project’s original name was a "playful reference" to the venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz (a16z), Eliza Labs founder Shaw Walters previously said.

However, after it became one of the largest AI agent platforms in the blockchain space, Chris Dixon, managing partner at a16z's crypto arm, said the firm requested that Ai16z change its name because it created confusion. At the time, the team did not update the ai16z token's ticker.

The project's token is now following suit, with ai16z migrating to elizaOS at a 1:6 swap ratio, according to a statement shared with The Block. All smart contracts will undergo third-party security audits with results published for full transparency, the team said.

The ai16z token is currently trading for around $0.094, according to The Block's ElizaOS price page, at a $104 million market cap, having fallen around 96% from its December 2024 peak.

The token 'needed to evolve'

"With ElizaOS v2, we've moved from an experimental sandbox to production-ready infrastructure for building composable, intelligent agents," Walters said in the statement. "These agents now manage complex workflows, retain context, and operate across multiple platforms. With more than 50,000 agents built and projects using ElizaOS surpassing $20 billion in combined value, the ecosystem has outgrown its experimental roots. To support this next chapter, the underlying token also needed to evolve."

The rebranded elizaOS is a utility token created to support the growth and operation of the ElizaOS ecosystem, and is backed by a structured treasury intended to maintain stability and finance future initiatives, the team said. The crypto-AI project raised $75,000 on the daos.fun platform in October 2024.

Built with interoperability in mind, elizaOS also leverages Chainlink's CCIP to function across multiple blockchains, including Solana, Base, and Ethereum, without relying on traditional bridges. It is designed to serve as the medium of exchange for agents to manage capital, pay for computation, and power decentralized finance applications.

"These agents are managing real capital today," Walters said. "elizaOS is the functional backbone of an agent-powered economy already in motion."

In August, Eliza Labs filed a lawsuit against X, alleging that the social media platform launched copycat AI products after obtaining key technical information from the firm.
